(Monza, 2010)
According to Selfe, the increasing
use of computers into schools was “prompted by two important cultural
realizations: society’s dependence on technology and the former system was not
providing equal educational opportunities for all students” (Selfe, 1999, 65). But
in order to have equal educational opportunities for all students educators
have to change the way they teach. According to the text, computers were not
changing but sustaining education. One
reason, for this is the rapid increase of technology and the lack of training
on proper educational techniques using computers for teachers. It is important
for all teachers to stay up-to-date with what interest’s students as well as
how students are processing information. Knowing this provides educators with a
way to connect with students and teach effectively. There will be some
negatives when using computers within the class room such as students becoming distracted,
or not knowing how to critical asses information. This is why restrictions and limitations
are needed when using technology in the class room as well as proper training.
